APAC Ping-Pong was hosted in Beijing by WAB (Western Academy Beijing) from January 23 to 27. This year’s varsity team was formed of 6 boys and 2 girls. Although there were only 2 girls in our team, they managed to place 4th in girls doubles. Additionally, our Varsity team received the sportsmanship award. Congratulations to the Varsity ping-pong team for competing and representing AISG well!
People were worried that there would not be enough members for the ping-pong team to form and compete at APAC, but fortunately, 3 freshmen boys and a freshmen girl joined and at the end, formed the team of 8 athletes.
The varsity ping-pong team had practiced hard for about 2 months before APAC, staying after school to practice at a local ping-pong court placed in Ersha with the help of a local coach.
As a freshman and a participant of MUN (Model United Nations), Jami R. noted that APAC was drastically different from MUN, as “Ping-pong requires teamwork and support within the team, whereas MUN focuses more in individual success.” She commented that the overall experience of being hosted and making new friends in the competition. Although they did not have a high placement overall, she believes that participating in APAC is already a privilege.
The Beacon apologizes for our tardy coverage for this article! Please do not forget to congratulate our Ping-Pong athletes!
