On October 8, 2021, Platinum End will be released on popular platforms such as Crunchyroll and Funimation. Platinum End was originally a manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the creators of the beloved anime Death Note.

The first volume of Platinum End debuted at number two on Oricon’s weekly list of the best-selling manga with 105,213 copies sold. In December 2020, the manga had 4.5 million copies in circulation.

Platinum End revolves around the abused teenager, Mirai Takahashi. Mirai attempts to commit suicide; however, he is saved by his guardian angel, Nasse. Nasse gifts Mirai with divine and powerful powers. He uses this power to plot revenge against his abusive aunt and uncle. Nasse informs Mirai that God will be retiring in 999 days. Mirai and twelve other candidates were chosen for the position of the new God. Throughout the whole series, Mirai refuses to compete, while some of the other contestants fight to become the universe’s most powerful force.

It’s been fourteen years since Death Note ended, yet it remains on every person’s anime must-watch list. The premise behind Death Note was undoubtedly one of its biggest selling points, and Platinum End presents a similar premise.

The competition in Platinum End has equally many conflicts, coalitions, and double-crossings as Death Note, making the series feel like a chess battle between demi-Gods. Platinum End has all of the attractions of Death Note’s famed cat-and-mouse battle between Light and L.

Director Hideya Takahashi (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Golden Wind), character designer Kouji Ohya (No Game No Life), and series composition writer Shinichi Inozume (PERSONA5 the Animation) are the current contributors to the Platinum End production team.
