From January 19 to 23, the boys and girls varsity Basketball team will be competing in the highly anticipated APAC basketball tournament. The event will be taking place in Concordia International School of Shanghai (CISS).

For the past two years, APAC, the biggest tournament of the season, has not taken place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, APAC has taken place starting from this year’s season one sports and activities, including volleyball and dance.

“I am so excited for this upcoming basketball APAC,” commented Oscar L., a sophomore part of the boys varsity basketball team. “I had so much fun in our volleyball APAC this year, and I am so happy to be able to go to basketball APAC as well.”

“I can not wait for basketball APAC,” said Sophia P., a junior captain of the girls varsity basketball team. “I just hope that nothing bad happens over the break so that we can go without any sort of problems.”

While the tournament is gaining a lot of excitement, a few concerns arise. First is the upcoming three-week holiday. Fitness is undoubtedly one of the most significant components of basketball in order to compete at a high level; however, the upcoming break might ruin the player’s stamina. Second is the discovery of COVID cases in Dongguan though it is not on a particular rise.

Founded in 1981, AISG is the first international school in South China, offering an international curriculum to its students. Guided by Western learning values and principles, AISG places great importance on nurturing “future-ready” individuals, even amid the pandemic.

Let us all together wish the best of luck to both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams!
