On Friday September 15, the high school volleyball team will be flying to Shanghai for Volleyball Tri-Cities. They will be competing for 3 days. I interviewed the team’s captain and coach. When I asked Javin L, the team captain about how this year’s team compared to last year’s, he replied, “Last year’s team was a developed team—players who already had a lot of playing experience. This year… we lack experience, but players have a lot of potential.” He also claimed to be “very excited to train with the team, and… improve and pave their paths to a successful APAC.”

When I asked Mr.Tomassen, the team’s coach, about what he thought were the core values of the AISG volleyball team, he said, “The same core value of ants. Ants have a common intent… They communicate. They look after each other. They do their jobs because that is what is needed… My hope is that the older players embrace these values, and uphold these so that they are passed on.” His answer to how the team has changed was, “This year’s team is stronger… in ability because there is a core of players that are going into their 3rd Varsity season. Stronger in depth. The freshmen have a good understanding of the game and this allows them to perform at a higher standard… Stronger in terms of experience… we have a strong core of players with 2 APAC tournaments under their belt.”

Best of luck to the volleyball team!
