The AISG Quiz Bowl Team traveled to Singapore this year for the annual Asia National Championship. AISG brought three teams, A, B, and C, to compete for the trophies. AISG did very well this year, with the A team taking home the 3rd place trophy and members Caroline Mao and Stanley Wang taking 2nd and 5th place individually and receiving a Top Scorer Medeal from NAQT. The tournament, which lasted one day, consisted of nine round-robin games in which each team played another school, moving either up or down depending on their performance.

The quiz team arrived in Singapore on Friday, March 9, and explored Singapore a little, going out to eat at a food court filled with many restaurants. The next morning, the team went to SAS to begin the tournament. Each team was placed in a different pod, and their ranking in each pod would affect who their opponents would be.

Each team played a series of nine round-robin style games against the other 16 schools and progressed in the tournament. In the end, the Guangzhou A Team won 3rd place, after two very close games with both Singapore A and B. The Guangzhou B Team tied with two others for 4th place, and the C Team, while tying for last place, enjoyed their first tournament.

This was the first Asian Championship Tournament ever and according to Joyce, an official from NAQT, she was quite pleased with the turnout and definitely plan on doing it in the future.
