This Saturday at around 9:45, the AISG Quiz Bowl team welcomed the Quiz Bowl team of HFI to our first Quiz Bowl intercity scrimmage tournament of the year. After 2 hours of competitive trivia, AISG’s team Killer Sheep was crowned champion.
The first Quiz Bowl match of the year included 4 teams: from AISG, team Rams, team Goats and team Killer Sheep; the guest team from the International Department of the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University (HFI) was Finding Lemur.
The Saturday tournament not only gave AISG their first victory in Quiz Bowl, but also their first interaction with HFI. The HFI is a prestigious school in Guangzhou. It’s famous for its international division where Chinese local students learn to speak English fluently and take AP courses.
According to Carole Zhou, a member of Finding Lemur and a student at HFI, “My experience at AISG was amazing. Even though we lost, it was amazing that we got to play with them. The best part was that the school really resembled an American high school as I have seen on TV before.”
This was not just a new and interesting experience for the HFI students, but also for us. According to the captain of the Killer Sheep, In Hwa Mo, “It was very fun to compete with them. They are so smart and it was an amazing experience.”
For me, it was an amazing experience, not just because I got the chance to compete in a real Quiz Bowl tournament, but also to compete with HFI. I have heard so many great things about that school and competing with them was excellent. Even though they lost, they didn’t despair – instead, they pledged to study harder and defeat us next time.
