Ragnarok is Upon Us

Thor: Ragnarok is the 17th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is the third Thor movie in the trilogy and it retells the famous story of Ragnarok from Norse mythology. The movie introduces audiences to multiple new characters, including Cate Blanchett as Hela, The Goddess of Death, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. Returning members of the cast include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner or The Incredible Hulk.

The basic overview of the plot of Thor: Ragnarok contains the story of Ragnarok (duh) in which Hela waged war on the realm of Asgard and brought upon the destruction of all the gods and everything they know. During Hela’s invasion, Thor was exiled to the planet Sakaar where he was reunited with his old friend Hulk, his treacherous brother Loki, and met Valkyrie, an old Asgardian warrior in hiding. After a few matches in the gladiatorial arena, Thor manages to band together with Hulk, Loki, and Valkyrie and travel back to Asgard to wage war on Hela.

Early reviews of the film have described it as one of the better Marvel films and many referred to it as the best Thor film thus far. Similar to previous MCU movies, Thor: Ragnarok is filled with jokes and quips. Perhaps, even more than previous installments. These comedic moments are present throughout the film and set the tone of the film. Though it might be annoying to certain audiences as it is likely that the dramatic tension would also be chuffed away in preference of comedy.

Now that the film is out in most theaters around the world, it can be enjoyed for everyone’s pleasure. It currently has a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is 1% higher than Spiderman: Homecoming. As of this moment, it is also the second best marvel movie according to the site. It also has been critically acclaimed to be one of the better movies of the year.

After viewing the film, I can testify to the quality of the film and speak honestly that this is one MCU film you won’t want to miss. The story flows at a fast but smooth pace, with agonizing drama (though rare), breathtaking action, and hilarious humor that would keep you interested throughout. I recommend this film to everyone who has yet to see it, and also to those who have to watch it a second time.

Thor: Ragnarok is out in theaters now in Guangzhou. Get out and enjoy it today!
