AISG’s middle and high school cross-country teams had their last race of the season against a neighboring international school, both against UISG (Utahloy International School of Guangzhou). The middle school race took place on October 20 and the high school race took place on October 19.

The middle school race was 3 kilometers long, and the fastest speed for the boys was 12 minutes and 40 seconds while the girls’ fastest speed was 13 minutes and 24 seconds.

The middle school boys’ team’s top five runners: 5th– Hansen (AISG), 4th– Tomo (AISG), 3rd– Atail (UISG), 2nd– Isaac Hsu (AISG), 1st– Jedi (UISG).

“Before the race, it was my goal to be top ten overall. During the race, I felt like I was going to die running the uphills- the whole time. After the race I felt a bit disappointed with my position but was pleased with how much I improved over the season,” said Zak G., an eighth grader at AISG on the middle school boys’ cross-country team.

The middle school girls’ team’s top five runners: 5th – Sai (AISG), 4th– Jamie (AISG), 3rd– Ellie (AISG), 2nd– Obeline (UISG), 1st– Mizuki (AISG).

“I was extremely nervous before the race, but it was fun when I started running. As a result, I took first place in the girl’s competition, but I did not get a good time of record. However, I am glad that I enjoyed running in my last race at AISG,” said Mizuki N., an eighth grader at AISG and member of the girls’ team.

The high school race was 5 kilometers long and was virtually done. The fastest speed for the boys was 20 minutes and 46 seconds while the girls’ fastest speed was 25 minutes and 43 seconds.

The high school boys’ team’s top five runners: 5th– Carson Y. (AISG), 4th– Mark G. (AISG), 3rd– Aravind A. (AISG), 2nd– Henry L. (AISG), 1st– Jason C. (AISG)

“I felt nervous, excited, and anxious before the race and when I was racing, I only thought of finishing the race. It was tiring knowing that you still have a long distance before reaching the finish, so you just keep telling yourself to keep moving and not stop. After I finished the race, I felt relieved that I finished and proud that I pushed myself to try and beat my personal best,” said Auston Y., a sophomore at AISG and member of the varsity boys’ cross-country team.

The high school girls’ team’s top five runners: HS girls’ team top 5: 5th– Cheka M. (A), 4th– Nicole W. (AISG), 3rd– Meg M. (AISG), 2nd– Michelle Q. (AISG), 1st– Erica L. (AISG)

“I felt really relieved that the race was not on the hills because that could have slowed all of us down. The wind was killing me but it felt good to know it was the last run of the season,” said Erica L., a junior at AISG and captain of the girls’ varsity cross-country team.
