Rams GISAC Tourney Results

This past Friday and Saturday (January 13, 14) was the annual Guangzhou International School Athletics Conference (GISAC) basketball tournament. Both the AISG Boys’ and Girls’ teams participated in the tournament along with the British School of Guangzhou, International School of Dongguan, Utahloy International School of Guangzhou, Utahloy International School Zengcheng, and Clifford International School.

Despite a few obstacles that had to be overcome, the boys team did very well. The Rams were undefeated in the GISAC league play, and were the regular season champions and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Looking to stay undefeated, the Rams did a good job winning their first game by a comfortable margin against Clifford. The Rams struggled in the first half of the game, but they were able to use the third quarter to pull ahead. Their intense defense was a factor to their win. The boys’ team continued their success on day one and followed their first win with a decisive game two win over Utahloy (GZ). After day one was in the books, the Rams gained themselves a place in the tournament championship game. The championship game was between AISG and Clifford, and this was the third time the two teams had played each other this year. Having already played a game earlier in the day, the Clifford players were more tired than the Rams. As a result, several Clifford players ended up cramping in the final minutes of the game while the Rams were still energetic. However, Clifford put up a good fight; they led by one point at halftime. After some struggling, the Rams managed to pull away with a lead midway through the fourth quarter despite having three starting players on the bench during the third quarter due to foul trouble. The Rams won by 15 points by a score of 74 to 59 and remained undefeated, making them both the regular season champions and tournament champions.

AISG’s girls’ team also did very well in the GISAC tournament. They, like the boys’ team, were undefeated in GISAC league play, and were looking to be champions of both the regular season and tournament. The lady rams were successful in their endeavor to achieve this feat. All that stood in their way was three games at the GISAC tournament. They easily won their first game against BSG, and then followed that up with two more statement wins and a championship game victory. The lady Rams played hard and their teamwork was great. Those two attributes played a huge role in their success. They capped off their tournament and regular season play very well and have a unblemished undefeated record to go along with their two titles.

Now, following their success that the Rams and Lady Rams had in the GISAC tournament, they look to carry over lessons they learned, and the momentum to APAC basketball, which will be a much tougher test for AISG. Never fear, the basketball teams will be prepared as they head off to Hanoi, Vietnam this Sunday.
