Roots and Shoots Animals: Ersha Movie Night Attracts a “Zoo”

• Bookmarks: 401232

On the afternoon of the last school day before high school China Trip adventures, the community service group Roots and Shoots Animals organized a movie night at the Ersha Campus for grades three to five. Roots and Shoots is an organization that was created by Jane Goodall in 1991 for people to join and solve humanitarian and environmental issues that occur around the world. To raise money for such issues, the AISG Roots and Shoots Animal group held the Ersha Movie Night Event. This allowed the group to invest money in projects that will help wild and domestic animals around the world.

The event was supposed to begin at 3pm but ended up starting at 4pm. It took an hour for the high school students to arrive at the Ersha Campus from Science Park because the driver accidentally took the wrong route. Ms. Erica Liu was the only teacher who remained with the excited elementary students for the hour before the high school students arrived. In fact, when the volunteers arrived, she was extremely relieved. When the high school students entered the MPR, they observed how ecstatic the 90 primary students were.

First things first, the elementary children had to eat. The dinner was provided by the Roots and Shoots Animals volunteers. The supper was a buffet composed of pizza slices, potato chips, cookies, crackers and refreshments. This was pure chaos for the high school students because the children were buzzing with joy and impatiently racing to the front of the line. When the children finally managed to sit down and eat their food, the Walt Disney Pictures’ film Zootopia was played for them on the large projector in the MPR. During the movie, the high school students gave the primary students popcorn to enjoy while watching the movie.

The evening finally reached an end when the movie finished and all of the children departed with their parents. The volunteers then had to clean up. Fortunately, this did not take extremely long. The students were exhausted after thinking about all the arduous work they had done. They could not wait to go home and jump straight in their beds. Although the night had some negative factors, in the end, the positive factors managed to outweigh the negatives. With their hard work, the community service group managed to raise a great amount of money that will help future projects.
