Amongst all of the possible activities, senior pranks are one of the most anticipated and exciting events in the senior year. Senior pranks are large-scale pranks organized by the senior class of high schools to cause chaos in the institution. (https://en.wikipedia.org/) This is a longstanding tradition where seniors leave surprises and retrospective references throughout the school as a means to say goodbye to their teachers and fellow students. Senior pranks are also known as Much-up day in other Western countries.

The Tradition of Senior Pranks

Because the idea of senior pranks was created in Western society, many students might be unfamiliar with this tradition. In 1582, as Europe was changing its calendar from Julian to Gregorian, the people celebrating the New Year on the wrong date were deemed to be fools. Since then, the practice of pranking had spread like wildfire across many nations, creating various events including the senior prank. (http://www.bearingnews.org ) However, in extremely conservative countries like Korea, Japan, and China, senior pranks as the conventional event is still inconceivable.

What has changed?

Senior pranks tend to be far more crazy and hilarious back in the old days. However, in these days, the event has been banned in many schools. This is because the bad senior pranks which involved the damage or destruction of the school’s property. At worst, the pranks were of a criminal nature.
