Senior Prank Ruined?

Senior pranks are a part of high school culture, just as much as exams, pep rallies, and prom. This year, the seniors played a number of pranks on the rest of the school. When students arrived in the morning, many were shocked to see that the front staircase was covered with cling wrap.

The surprises continued as students went around the building. There were pictures of students scattered around the floor, and there were different AISG memes also on the floor. Many chairs and benches were strewn around the hallways, and some even had moved lockers to obstruct the way to class. While the students all enjoyed the pranks, Mr. Timmerman, reportedly, did not.

According to senior Jacky L, Mr. Timmerman was not happy about the prank. Some seniors worked until 10 pm to complete it, and some of their work didn’t earn Mr. Timmerman’s approval. According to senior Alice F, 5 or 6 students took charge while the rest worked to set up the prank. Unfortunately, the next morning, Mr. Timmerman forced the seniors to remove the plastic wrap from the staircase so the students could go in, though the seniors left other ways for students to go up the stairs. Jacky L was excited about his elevator prank, where he taped over the elevator buttons and put cups of water in front of the elevator entrances, but Mr. Timmerman forced him to take all of this down before the students arrived.

When asked about this, Mr. Timmerman said that his bottom line for the prank “anything that they did couldn’t affect the students coming to class on time.” He made them take down the cling wrap on the stairs because he “wasn’t going to make students follow the maze to get to class” which would have made them late. He also said that he made it clear to the seniors that the elevator prank was allowed, but people still needed to use the elevator.

Many of the seniors expressed their frustration at their hard work being torn down, especially as they had been planning the prank for almost 3 weeks. Alice F said that they had “talked with both Ms. Erica and Mr. Timmerman to ensure we were respecting school’s policies and the general behavior expectations”, so there should not have been any trouble, but also expressed that there had been a miscommunication between Mr. Timmerman and the rest of the seniors. Alice also said that the seniors thought that they were allowed to keep the pranks up for the day, but instead were made to clean up by the morning bell.
