Should we be able to write in our textbooks?

• Bookmarks: 572577

Every new unit, teachers hand out new textbooks to us. Don’t you find it annoying when they assign homework, but we have to do it on a separate piece of paper which we might lose? I think we should be able to write on our own textbooks.

First of all, writing on textbooks supports memory, and it would be much more convenient when trying to study. Instead of freaking out and finding miscellaneous paper and notes, we can just take out our textbooks, go to the table of contents and study.

Secondly, we would not have to bring an extra notebook. Marco Luo, a 9th grader, said, “I think we should be able to write in our textbooks because my bag would be much lighter!” Our bags are already heavy with school items, and with the addition of materials for after-school activities, we do not need more books to bring. Studies have shown that book bags heavier than 5 kilograms are harmful for the growth of teenagers, and our computers are already heavy, so we don’t need more weight on our shoulders.

Thirdly, considering our budget, notebooks would be expensive both for the school to provide for every student, and for each student to buy them themselves. Notebooks are usually made with paper, unless it’s a digital app, so it is not environmentally friendly. Even though textbooks usually have a lot of pages, it’s still an efficient way of recording knowledge and useful for us to learn.

I think we should be able to write in our textbook, because it will make our bags lighter. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
