“S’more” China Trip Adventures: Grade 10

To the dismay of some, October break has come to an end and China trips seems like a distant memory. But, now that school is back in session, it is time to report on student and teacher reflections from their respective China trip. The Grade 10 students began their China trip with a bus ride to Hong Kong and spent four days on the beach doing various activities from kayaking, snorkeling and stand-up paddle boarding to camping, hiking, and canyoning.

Ms. Martin-Bauer, who attended the trip, commented, “it was a great experience overall. I think the Grade 10 trip is great because it is probably the trip that has the most different activities.” Martin-Bauer also added, “it’s the idea of being a risk taker. For a lot of our students, being outside and pushing themselves physically is something new and different that they wouldn’t choose to do.”

Sophomore Tony Hess said that he really enjoyed the water activities on China trips, specifically stand-up paddle boarding, because it was a new experience for him. Hess, however, said, “I disliked camping. It was way too hot and there were mosquitos everywhere. There were also a lot of cows at the campsite and we had to dodge all of the cow poop. The cows also attacked one of the girls tents at night and it woke us all up.” Hess said that the trip lived up to his expectations and he had a good, memorable time.

Sophomore Maria Elana Little Endara shared, “I really loved China trips. It was the best one so far. It exceeded my expectations and I go to meet people that I hadn’t really known before. I really stepped outside of my comfort zone with some of the activities, but I had fun and I think I got a lot out of it.” Endara said her favorite part was “the bonfire we had when we were camping. We made s’mores and watched people sing and perform.”

The sophomores had a good time and were able to have fun while being outside of their comfort zone. The Grade 10 trip really helped students be risk takers and prepares them for the future.
