SONY WH-1000XM3: Experience the Next Level of Silence

I finally purchased the headphones that I was longing for since the moment it came out in January — the SONY WH-1000XM3. Sony’s WH-1000XM3s was officially released in August, 2018. Since then, it has taken over the title as one of the top noise-canceling headphones of all time. The WH-1000XM3s costs $349.99 on the official Sony website and are available in two colors — silver and black. What makes these headphones so special?

One: noise-canceling.

The noise-canceling quality of the WH-1000XM3 is unbelievable. With Sony’s new HD Noise-Canceling Processor QN1, the noise-canceling ability is greatly enhanced (Sony). Personally, I like to minimize noise disturbances when I listen to music because I find them distracting, which is the main reason why I purchased these headphones. WH-1000XM3’s noise-canceling power is beyond belief as you cannot hear anything when you put them on — not even the voice of someone talking right next to you. Every morning, I come to school with my headphones on and I can never hear the morning music or the bell (and we all know how loud they are). The Sony WH-1000XM3 literally cancels every noise that might disturb your music-listening experience.

Two: smart features.

WH-1000XM3’s smart features are evidence that shows how Sony really worked hard on this headphone. The headphones are so advanced as it includes smart features like Quick Attention, Voice Assistant compatibility, touch control, and Atmospheric Pressure/Unique Personal Optimizing. First of all, Quick Attention is a feature where the user can communicate with others without taking off the headphone. As soon as the headphone detects a hand over the right housing, volumes are reduced and noises become audible. Secondly, WH-1000XM3s include a voice assistant that says basic things like “power on”, “power off” and “battery about 30%”. Thirdly, touch control allows users to change the music and adjust volumes by swiping or tapping the right panel of the headphone. Users no longer have to go on their phones to do so. Lastly, the optimizing feature is also very impressive. Atmosphere Pressure Optimizing analyzes the atmospheric pressure and adjusts its system to deliver optimal sound at high altitude. Unique Personal Optimizing analyzes the sonic characteristics caused by head size, glasses, and hair, then optimizes the sound to you (Sony).

Three: wireless.

Wireless headphones have been around for a while and it is no surprise that the WH-1000XM3s function wirelessly. Using these wireless headphones helped me realize how much the headphone/earphone wires limit users’ action when listening to music. Since the WH-1000XM3s are wireless, I can walk around without restriction within in a few meters of my phone or my computer. For example, while my phone is on my desk at home, I can walk around freely and pack my bag. Also, there is no tangling of the wires and I can even stand up and stretch my body without dragging my phone.

Jeff Lee, a senior who recently purchased the WH-1000XM3s after my recommendation, commented that the headphone’s “noise-canceling is crazy good and very impressive”. Gino Zhang, also a senior, expressed his satisfication on “how every Sony headphones come with a phone application where he can personalize the sound position, equalizer and surround (VPT)”.
