Spider-Man: Behind The Mask.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is an animated film starring Miles Morales as Spider-Man. It was initially released on December 1st and is my favorite Spider-man film that I saw in theaters. I will be reviewing the film and explaining why this film is a work of art.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” captures the image of Spider-Man. It is without a doubt one of the best interpretations of Spider-Man that nails every part of what makes Spider-Man Spider-Man. The film follows Miles Morales as he gets spider powers and throughout the film, with the help of a couple of other spider-people, grows to become Spider-man. It is Miles’s journey of becoming a hero, but he is not the only interesting character in the show. The supporting cast consists of an older Peter B. Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and Peni Parker. All of which are used well and fun characters in their own right. The Kingpin is the main antagonist of the film. He was very menacing on screen. He is not one of those villains who are bad for the sake of being evil; he has personal motivations for doing what he does in the film, and it is easily understandable.

The main theme of the film, emphasized by the line “What makes you special, is what makes you spider-man,” is that “anyone can be Spider-Man”. Anyone can put on the mask and become the hero. Being Spider-Man is not about being Peter Parker and having all his spectacular superpowers; it’s about responsibility. Uncle Ben said it best when he stated, “With great power comes great responsibility.” While we cannot swing on webs in mid air, everyone can live up to the responsibility that comes with being a human.

The film’s animation makes it look like a moving, breathing comic book. Paused frames of the film literally looks like panels from a comic. The animation style is unique and colorful, it provides the movie with a fun and intriguing vibe. Each character looks like they have their own style of animation and it truly makes them feel otherworldly. Some people might find this style of animation unsettling. A popular criticism of the film was that sometimes the movie looks slow and almost stop-motion like. I was never bothered by the speed of the animation and I thought that the animation was effective in achieving the comic book style.

Many people consider animated films to be made for kids, but I can assure you that this movie is made for everyone. Spider-man as a character has been around for over 55 years and people of all ages can find something within this character that they can relate to. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” manages to give audiences the best interpretation of the character of Spider-Man, the achievement of this film should not be easily overlooked.

For those who saw the film, what do you guys think of it? Feel free to leave comments about your opinions and critique my response.
