Stay Tuned and String Along

Last Tuesday evening marked the last choir and strings concert of the 2018-19 school year. It was also the last AISG concert for Ms. Lin and many of our seniors.

I’ve attended all three choir and strings concert this year, and there is no doubt that this concert was the best out of the three. The quality of music has improved so much from the beginning of the year for both strings and choir performances.

The High School Choir’s performance consisted of a mixture of exciting and solemn songs and was even more filled with energy and choreography than the last concert. They sang four songs: “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Sing, Sing Sing,” “After the War,” “Rise Up,” and my personal favorite, “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” The High School orchestra was the last act of the evening. They performed with similar energy and success as the choir (minus the choreography), beautifully playing songs like “the Theme from Schindler’s List” and “Highlights from Moana.”

At the end of the concert, there was a short appreciation and farewell ceremony for the departing seniors.

Senior Aini C. has played the violin in the orchestra since she arrived at AISG in her freshman year—counting the years in her previous school, she’s been in orchestras for 8 years, and thinks that her time in the orchestra has been a “really rewarding experience.” Although like any good artist, she thinks the concert wasn’t perfect to every detail, she thinks that the concert definitely “ended [her] high school orchestra career on a strong note.”

This was also senior Sameer S.’s last concert, a satisfying ending to his two years of choir experience. His most memorable experience from choir was the preparation for this concert, which included figuring out the choreography while wearing a boot because of his foot injury. From the audience perspective, I can say for sure that Sameer, sitting on his chair in the middle of the stage, was one of the main highlights of the High School Choir’s performances.

This concert was also Ms. Lin’s last concert at AISG. Stay tuned for our upcoming article about her 17 years with AISG!
