StuCo 18-19 #HARMONY

This past Saturday was a true test of the newly elected StuCo’s teamwork and harmony. I think we might have failed it a little, but hey, we’re working on it. At the annual StuCo leadership workshop, while most of you were sleeping in and making the most of the weekends, StuCo was doing some team building.

As a group of 18 people, we participated in an ice-breaker. The purpose of the game was to direct a blindfolded person to a location without talking–we were only allowed to pat the shoulder of the person in front of us in line. With slightly excessive squeals and shrieks, the four teams made their way to the coffee stand near the entrance.

Then Ms. Dean came up with an idea. Combining into two lines, the “navigators” were given another set of instructions. However, this time, somebody came up with the idea of patting the person in front of them on their back. It was a simple command: RUN. Oh, what a chaos that single tap caused. The moment Ms. Dean set us off, people in both lines were just frantically slapping the person in front of them. We ran straight into the rain. Eventually, with more tripping, falling and high-pitched cries, we made it (although the correct path was indoors and we weren’t supposed to get wet). I am sorry to say that the presidents and vice-presidents team lost to the secretaries and treasurers team (perhaps due to an absence from the president and vice-president team), but I may be slightly biased.

Of course, we got work done too. After several ice-breakers, we all sat down in the faculty lounge to discuss an overview of the year and all the major events coming up: Field Day, held on the last day of school; the Talent Show, held at the end of April; various pep rallies for all the APAC seasons; and the forthcoming and much anticipated Open Mic Night, happening at the end of October. If you’re not in StuCo, you are in for a treat that night 😉

About the whole workshop, Meenu S., Vice President for GenCo 12, says, “I feel like we learned a lot, [especially] about teamwork.” I couldn’t agree with her more. This was my first time attending this workshop, and I thought it was the perfect mix of fun and work. Lisa M., the Executive Secretary, was very happy with the level of enthusiasm at the workshop and feels very optimistic about the coming year. She believes that “[this year’s group has] a lot of creative and fun people”, so things are looking up for StuCo.

For StuCo 18-19, Executive President Andy J has chosen the theme “harmony”. We are definitely on the right track so far!
