With every new school year comes new students, new faculty, new amenities as well as new Student Council (StuCo) representatives. Every year a StuCo workshop is held to prepare the new members for the year ahead and to allow all StuCo members to get to know each other. This year’s StuCo workshop took place on August 31 at the AISG Ersha Campus, and assisted the students in clarifying their 2019-2020 goals and additionally gave them a chance to bond.
StuCo members woke up to a sunny Saturday and headed to the Ersha Campus. Several different activities were held to help new members familiarize themselves with all the StuCo processes as well as to encourage all members to bond with one another. The activities ranged from nostalgic parachute games to StuCo role specified learning sessions. “I think it went really smoothly, and everyone had high energy and enthusiasm for the workshop. We were very efficient with time, and according to the members, the activities were perfect.” Lisa M., the StuCo Executive Council (Exco) President remarked.
The event definitely brought about a sense of family among StuCo members as they realized that from now on, they all have to communicate and collaborate effectively for the rest of the school year. Ms. Maine, a StuCo teacher coordinator, commented, “Students start running for StuCo with their own individual ideas… and it’s nice to see how they all realize how similar they are to one another during the workshop.” This year’s StuCo members have a fantastic rapport with one another that will aid them greatly in the 2019-2020 school year.
From a StuCo member’s perspective, I can certainly say that the workshop helped all students achieve two essential things: bond with each other, and kickstart the year with a positive mental energy. This year’s Grade Council (Genco) 10 Secretary, Sandy N., commented: “I look forward to bonding with the other StuCo members and having fun in the events we plan together.” With this kind of positive attitude, this year’s StuCo is sure to come up with tons of enjoyable activities for all.
All of this year’s StuCo members are excited to prepare a fantastic and memorable year for all students and hope to successfully represent this year’s theme, “Legacy.”
