In the afternoon of Friday, November 30th, Shanghai American International School of Pudong (SASPD) and Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) arrived in Guangzhou for the annual Tri-Cities Basketball tournament. This year, the event was hosted by our school and took place from November 30th to December 1st. In order to make the Tri-Cities tournament this year more competitive, we decided to invite the NBA School of Dongguan and a local school’s girl’s basketball team.
On the day of the tournament, all AISG basketball players were dismissed from their classes at 1:00 PM. The gymnasium was split into two basketball courts, with two games going on at once. The first game for the AISG Girl’s Basketball team was against SASPD. In the past years, SASPD has always been the biggest competition at Tri-Cities for the AISG girls. However, our ladies started out the game strong and led the scoreboard for the first three quarters. Sadly, by the end of the last quarter, SASPD was able to come back and beat our girls. According to the AISG players, the main reason SASPD was able to beat them was because of their fitness. The second and last game of Day 1 was against WAB. Within the first half of the game, Junior Candy L. got a concussion after falling head-first onto the concrete floor. Despite her sudden injury, the team was still able to lead the scoreboard and win the game 31-13.
On the second day of the tournament, the girls played against the local school’s girl’s team and WAB once again. Despite being the most challenging team of this year’s Tri-Cities, our girls were still able to keep the score close in the first quarter at 8-6. However, the local school team was able to pick up their pace, leaving the game at 63-28 by the end of the fourth quarter. This left our girls no choice but to compete for the 3rd and 4th place.
Just like the first game against WAB, our girls were able to finish strong and win the 3rd place trophy. Congratulations to our Lady Rams!
