April 29 – May 3 was teacher appreciation week at AISG. Teacher appreciation week is a week where students express their deep gratitude for the work and passion their teachers put in every day.
Teachers were given special gifts from the AISG community. The secondary school admin Dr. Lyso said, “On Monday, the PTA had bubble tea for all the teachers. On Tuesday, we handed out coffee coupons for them. On Wednesday there was a thank you banquet at ErSha for all teachers. On Thursday and Friday, masseuses come in to give massages to all the SP faculty and staff.”
Mr. Ackers, an upper secondary social studies teacher said, “It was great to be cared for. ” Mr. Ackers also had a student that wrote a “Thank You Letter” to him about how the student appreciates the level of feedback Mr. Ackers gives and they liked how Mr. Ackers respond to student needs by pushing back deadlines when student workload is becoming too demanding.
The school’s Deputy Director Mr. Robb says, “It is critical to recognize the hard work, dedication, and impact that teachers have on their students’ lives, both academically and social-emotionally. Teachers devote innumerable hours, both within and beyond the confines of the classroom, to cultivate a nurturing atmosphere that fosters a sense of community and strengthens interpersonal bonds with their students. The AISG community thanks all the teachers for everything they do to make AISG a great place to learn and work.”
Students were also involved in teacher appreciation week. Some teachers were given a special “Thank You Letter” to the hard work and commitment they have done for the past year from Stuco and their students. Others were being shared a verbal note walking down the school hallway.
However, there were also some teachers that felt like teacher appreciation week was just another normal school week.
Ms. Thimonier, an upper secondary French teacher said, “I’m not really use to teacher appreciation week, but I do support it and its nice when students say they appreciate what they are learning is important to them. It was nice getting free coffee coupons from café as well as the free lunch funded by the PTA.”
