From September 6th to September 8th, the tennis team traveled to Beijing to attend Tri-cities at the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) where they got some good results.

On Friday, September 6th, the tennis team traveled to the WAB to attend the North-South-East Tennis tournament, or Tri-cities, where they were able to get some good results from the tournament. Early Friday morning, the tennis team traveled to Beijing and played against Shanghai American School Pudong (SASPD) and the International School of Beijing (ISB). In their first matches against SASPD and ISB, the boys’ #1 singles, Bryan Yu, beat the boys’ #1 singles of ISB in a tiebreaker, who would, later on, win first place during the ranked match. For the others on the team, during their matches against ISB and SASPD, they were able to gain lots of experience as to what their strengths were and what their weaknesses were. Also, most of the team was able to experience a more competitive environment which allowed them to understand where they stand in terms of ability, skills, and power.

On Saturday, the tennis team played their last round-robin match against WAB where the boys’ doubles, Hayden Heffner and Max Jiang, were able to beat the WAB boys’ doubles 8-2. After finishing all of the round-robin matches, WAB and AISG were pitted against each other for 3rd and 4th, while SASPD and ISB were playing for 1st and 2nd. During the match against WAB, yet again the boy’s doubles beat the WAB boys doubles, and the boys’ #1 singles, Bryan Yu, avenged his loss against the #1 singles of WAB 8-4 after losing to him during the round-robin matches. After all the matches were finished, all of the tennis players were split up and randomly paired together for the mini social mixed doubles tournament.

During the mini-tournament, the girls’ double Sheila Wang paired with the #1 singles of SASPD to win third place with a total of 28 points and Bryan Yu paired with the girls’ #1 singles of SASPD to win fourth place with a total of 26 points.

In the end, tri-cities was more of a learning experience for many of the people of the team, giving them a chance to learn more about their abilities as well as being able to compete in an environment that will be similar to APAC than about winning a medal or trophy.
