The 2017 Winter Concert: A Medley of Performances

A band is a place for people to express their emotions with music and passion. The band is full of diverse instruments ranging from woodwinds (saxophones, clarinets, flutes) to percussions (snares, bells, bongos). The overall concert was extraordinary. The songs ranged from seasonal themes, such as “Jingle Bells” by J.S. Pierpont, to British folk songs, such as “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy A. Grainger.

AISG’s middle school band performance was astonishing for how young they are. Each grade level in middle school, grades 6-8, performed separately based on their grade level. Although grade 6 played the least amount of songs, they proved that they were capable to withstand challenges and new talents. Grade 7 and grade 8 also played extraordinarily well from Mr. Pihowich’s experiences and teachings. The grade 8 band showcased their ability to perform at a higher level and showed how they are ready to dominate the high school band next year.

AISG’s high school band was as great as it has always been. Ranging from freshly graduated middle schoolers to old scholars of music, the Seniors. The band offered a wide variety of talented musicians ranging from flutes to trumpets to a wide range of percussion. The high school band wowed its audience with its amazing 5-piece performance of “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy A. Grainger, a British folk song set for the military. They also performed “Disney at the Movies” by arr. John Higgins, which includes classic and catchy Disney songs. The high school band yet again showcased their ability to perform a wide variety of genres and brings it to another level of pure and skilled entertainment.

Overall, although grades 6-8 bands were the new beginners of live music concert, they were still able to give a well organized entertainment for the audience. The high school band was as great as always and was able to showcase their years of hard work through the outstanding song choices made by Mr. Pihowich, ranging from classical songs to modern pop songs. Both Mr. Pihowich and the band played extraordinarily well that night and AISG cannot wait for next year’s performance of the new fresh comers in the high school band and the new scholars of 2019.
