Sitcoms (situation comedies) are arguably the best type of TV show there is. What’s better than watching a group of characters you love being in extremely funny situations? Unlike drama series, sitcoms are lighthearted and entertaining; they do not require your full attention which means they could be playing in the background while you do other work. I often find drama shows hard to keep up with, missing a single moment in one episode could make you feel confused the rest of the episode. Sitcoms, on the other hand, do not really follow sequential events; the audience could most likely skip an episode and still have somewhat of a good understanding of the show as each episode focuses on a different situation. Below are some of my favorite sitcoms (which happen to be my favorite shows of all time too!). I love these shows with all my heart and I promise you will too.
The Office: Hands down the best television series of all time. This show is a MUST WATCH. The Office follows the journey of office employees of a paper company, Dunder Mifflin. In my opinion, the characters are what make this show amazing. The boss, Michael Scott (Steve Carell), is one of the most cringe-worthy characters of all time; he doesn’t know when to stop talking and attempts to crack jokes but often fails terribly. While Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) is just another salesman, he is notable for being extremely serious in casual situations and being one of the most socially awkward characters on television. There are many more characters but I believe that these two sum up the show pretty well: awkward, hilarious, and amazing.
Parks and Recreation: Parks and Recreation is another one of my favorite shows of all time. The show follows a group of workers in the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indiana. Similar to The Office, the main characters include the boss and the employees. The show centers around Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), an extremely eager and optimistic bureaucrat, and her co-workers, Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), and more. I think Parks and Recreation has one of the most diverse sets of characters and relationships, the most notable one being April and Andy’s. I can assure that Parks and Recreation will be worth your time.
Bob’s Burgers: Unlike the two shows mentioned above, Bob’s Burgers is an animated show; however, it is just as interesting and the characters are just as fun. The show follows the Belcher family who owns a burger restaurant named Bob’s Burgers. While there are only 5 main characters, the show never ceases to amaze me with its never-ending creative episodes. While most sitcoms require some level of background understanding of the characters, Bob’s Burgers does not follow sequential events and therefore the episodes do not need to be watched in chronological order. If you’re looking for a lighthearted and fun show, this is the one for you!
Let me know if you watch any of these! Please take caution as these shows are VERY addictive and can take up hours of your day. Here’s a fun buzzfeed quiz to take to see which show you would be.
