School Life

The Anticipation

• Bookmarks: 271423

For seniors, this semester will probably be the most crucial semester of their lives. The constant anticipation of receiving college offers can be highly stressful to many students, which has always been a burden for students in the last year of high school. This is why many seniors are putting their lives on the line to get that extra point, to bump up the chances to get accepted to their dream university.

As AISG is an international school, students will be going to various places across the globe such as the US, Canada, the UK, Korea and Hong Kong. Depending on the country that seniors apply to, the conditions can be very different. For example, US and Korean universities seem to let students escape the stress as some US offers are conditional on just passing the IB with the minimum 24 points, and others have no condition related to IB results. Korean universities vary, but often rely more upon predicted scores than actual IB results. However, Canadian and Hong Kong schools have conditional offers that either match the predicted score of the student, or fall just a couple points lower. This can be extremely stressful as students need to put in their hardest effort until the final day, as a drop in performance may lead to a potential rejection from the university.

On top of all the stress, the reality of rejections can be extremely hard to handle for some people. The worst feeling in the world for seniors now would be when they get rejected, but some of their peers make it into the same school. With this in mind, if you know that a friend is suffering from a rejection, it is best not to mention it as it could be the most devastating rejection of their lives so far.

Wherever you go, all you have to think about is that you are finally free from high school. You get to be an adult, and you get to enjoy the world the way you truly want to. Enjoy these last few months of high school and make some crazy memories that you can look back at during college.
