Dinosaurs, male strippers, and Tom Cruise hanging off an airplane – there was something for everyone this summer at the cinemas. With this guide, you’ll be able to determine which of these movies are worth your money when it comes out in China.
Hollywood’s blockbuster season kicked off with the second instalment of Marvel’s Avengers: The Age of Ultron. Other highly anticipated titles of this summer included Jurassic World, Inside Out, Terminator, Minions, and Ant Man, just to name a few.
The film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes ranked 40 of this summer’s most highly anticipated films. At the bottom of the list was Anne Fletcher’s Hot Pursuit, with critics criticising it as “Shrill and unfunny”. Along with Hot Pursuit, Fantastic Four was rated 8% fresh, landing a spot at 39. With an estimated $26.2 million opening, The Fantastic Four reboot had one of the lowest debuts ever for a superhero movie released by a major studio.
Among the top of the list were Amy Winehouse’s biopic Amy, Pete Docter’s Inside Out, George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, and Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Perhaps the most surprising part of this list was that the number one movie, with a 99% rating was Shaun the Sheep, with a consensus that it was “Warm, funny, and brilliantly animated”.
As for myself, my favorite movie this summer was the fifth installment of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. It was as jaw-dropping, pulse-racing, and heart-stopping as all the other Mission Impossible movies, but with improved technology this latest addition set itself apart from the previous movies. If you are seeking for a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this movie delivers.
Needless to say, this has been a summer of surprises at the box office.
