On June 9, Electronic Arts revealed a new trailer of the upcoming video game from their franchise “Battlefield”. The new video game is called “Battlefield 2042” are will be based on pre-future warfare.

The game’s initial launch date was set to be October 22. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, developer DICE has decided to postpone it by a month, to November 19.

The developer stated, “Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams.”

Nevertheless, the team has been praised by the community since the trailer launch and the later gameplay teaser release. According to DICE, the game allows up to 128 people per server, next-gen graphics for immersive gameplay, and the return of the old maps from previous Battlefield games (Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline).

An Overview of the Story

The story of Battlefield 2042 is set to be the conflict between world superpowers: the United States of America and the Russian Federation. In the past decade, the world has been facing challenges from rising sea waters, global food and water shortages, and the collapse of Germany along with the European Union.

In 2037, global warming has left many people homeless, starving, and out in the ruins of what used to be cities. Those people, so-called “No-Pats or “non-patriated”, feel abandoned by the government but have found a way of surviving by fighting for their lives.

By 2040, unknown space debris creates a “Kessler Effect”, causing almost 70% of the satellites to crash to Earth. On Earth, millions of lives were lost following the collapse of communication systems.

Distrust between the two countries surges as both claim their responsibilities to each other and the conflict escalates to a global scale. Meanwhile, No-Pats have no choice but to choose their sides (USA or Russia) caught in the crossfire.

Players either choose the USA or Russia playing as No-Pats to help win the upcoming war.
