The New Reopening Plans and Current Mask Mandates for All 50 States in the US

Across the United States, mask mandates are being erased and restrictions due to COVID are being lifted. States are making their way back to business before the pandemic, which did not directly impact the United States on a large scale until March of 2020.

It appears that in the next few months, a large portion of the country will be opened with few restrictions.

The decisions for restrictions and mask mandates throughout the Unites States were mainly made by state officials for each state individually rather than the entire country’s government as a whole. The imposition of such, if any, was slow and gradual in most states.

There were months of trial and error for these restrictions due to this patchwork of rules across the nation. Governors would reopen areas and sectors they had previously closed, only to close them down again as the infection rate rose and fell.

All 50 states have moved much closer to lifting on all social gatherings and businesses as vaccinations have progressed exponentially. In many states that are not fully opened at the moment, governors have set targets for doing so based on vaccination rates, infection rates, and other health measures.

Although most of the restrictions due to COVID are being lifted in the United States, the one exception is the use of masks.

Wearing a mask will continue to be required in every state for any indoor gathering or public area. Some states still have social-distancing rules for businesses, even as they lift capacity limits for who can enter their stores.
