As many of us know, the school’s first athletic seasons, including the sports of volleyball, cross country, and tennis, have come to a successful close. However, with these being finished, two new doors have opened up for athletes: basketball and swimming.
Both sports began training the week of APAC, on Tuesday, October 20. However, not everyone could attend until the second week of practices, due to them being away.
I interviewed Mr. Elliott, the Athletic Director and the Varsity Basketball coach for the boys. When I asked him what his hope were for the new basketball season, he responded with, “I hope we win the league championship and do well at APAC and that every player accomplishes their goals.”
Both the girl’s and boy’s basketball teams have heir first game on Wednesday, November 11.
However, the swim team has already had a meet. On Saturday, October 24, the team travelled to the British School of Guangzhou (BSG) and took part in the first GISAC swim meet of the season. Although our competitors were a bit rusty after only three practices, a total of two first places, six second places, and three third places were earned.
On November 20th, the team will travel to Taipei and compete in an invitational at the Taipei American School (TAS).
However, athletics are not the only activities being taken part in, currently. Orchestra, dance, and choir are all working tirelessly at improving themselves for their upcoming APAC’s. AISG is hosting APAC Orchestra, which is very exciting for both the community, and the performers.
Additionally, choir will be at the Canadian Academy (CA), in Kobe, Japan. Dance will be hosted at the Shanghai American School of Puxi (SASPX).
I spoke to Gwen Farm, a sophomore, and proud dancer. I asked her what she was most excited about for APAC dance, and she replied with, “Just like any other APAC, I’m extremely excited to meet talented, new people from other schools and at the same time expand my horizon of dance. I’m extremely excited to attend the workshops provided as I’d get to learn new styles and techniques and am really hoping there’s a contemporary workshop cause I really love contemporary.”
Hopefully, everybody’s APAC experiences go off without a hitch, and both the swimming and basketball teams continue to train for their tournaments in January.
