As many have said, “It could be worse—Kayne could be running for present in 2025!”
When Trump first ran for president, it was unexpected and , but it has been the reality. Clinton won the popular vote, which is the sum of all the votes cast in the general election nationwide, but she lost the electoral college election. The Electoral College comprises 538 electors from the 50 states. The number of electors is determined by the number of senators and representatives for each state and they could either hand Hillary Clinton a victory, or deny both candidates the majority with enough defectors. In spite of a petition signed by more than 4.3 million people asking the electoral college to vote for Hilary Clinton, the inauguration of Donald Trump will continue as planned on January 20, 2017 because the result of electoral college’s votes was in favour of Trump.
Recently, Trump released his plans for his term. Though it started as a joke for many people, his plans of constructing the wall to fight against illegal immigration will continue with the understanding that Mexico would reimburse the United States for the cost. For the economy, Trump has vowed to raise the GDP growth rate from the Obama years by cutting taxes for everyone and lifting restrictions and regulations. Also, he will be making major changes to the trade industry. Trump declared his aim will be to “ensure that every single one of our trade agreements increases our GDP growth rate, reduces our trade deficit, and strengthens our manufacturing base.” Basically, Trump’s plans would prevent trade, especially with “China, China, China!” After analyzing his plans, many economists predict that his trade plans in particular will bring disastrous results to not only the US economy, but the global economy.
Despite Trump’s controversial plans, the stock market hasn’t suffered as predicted since Trump’s triumph in the presidential election. What’s more, US and Russian relations have greater hopes of improvement as Putin and Trump share a close bond and great respect for each other. This might be the beginning of “The Warm War”. Yet, this may upset those Americans who believe that the approach of the Trump administration toward Russia should be based on American interests as many Russian decisions are in conflict with the US.
On the other hand, congratulations to Trump for becoming the first president without a pet or experience in politics or the military. He’s been breaking a lot of traditions being the first president without military and/or political experience. It could be a good thing, but then again traditions are traditions for a reason. Good luck America and the rest of the world!
