On September 15th, the AISG Tennis Team, led by Coach McSwiggan and Coach Kevin, travelled to Beijing to participate in the annual Tri-Cities Tennis Tournament hosted by the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB). This year, AISG achieved remarkable results.
The Tri-Cities Tennis Tournament is part of the WAB annual festival, WABx-to-the-Max. WABX not only includes sport competitions, but also fine arts such as dance and jazz ensemble. This weekend, AISG had the chance to compete with the International School of Beijing (ISB), Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), and Shanghai American School Pudong (SASPD).
Right after a three-hour flight, the team headed to WAB for their first game against SASPD. The Shanghai team has always been a tough team to beat for the past few years. This year, our girls team were able to defeat SASPD and take 3rd place. Through hard work and outstanding effort, our girls achieved unprecedented results and brought home a trophy with pride and honour.
Grace Tang (senior), Girls Singles 1, won her game against SASPD twice by 8-1 and ISB by 8-1. Megan Harwood (junior), Girls Singles 2, defeated SASPD twice as well by 8-6 and 8-0. “This is the best result we’ve gotten for a while, and I feel that the girls team is stronger than it’s ever been in my high school career” said Grace.

Even though the boys did not bring back a trophy, they still demonstrated outstanding performance in their matches. Bryan Yu (freshman), Boys Singles 1 defeated WAB in an intense tiebreaker and finally won by 8-7. By the end of the tournament, AISG boys got 4th place.
Overall, the team performed wonderfully and showed a high level of improvement in their skills. “I’m proud of my personal growth as well as the growth of my team,” said Grace, “I am really looking forward to the Super APAC Tennis Tournament later in October.”

AISG will be traveling to WAB again in October this year to compete in the Super APAC Tennis Tournament. They will be playing against all twelve APAC schools, including some familiar faces they just met this weekend.
