A “Vaccination Pass” is a code confirming that an individual has been vaccinated and tested negative for COVID-19. This is one of the “step-by-step daily recovery” measures that Korea has taken.
It was implemented since November 1, 2021, and it is required for people to prove they are vaccinated and COVID-19 negative when entering multi-use facilities or entertainment facilities.
If consumer activity takes place in facilities without having their vaccination pass monitored, both consumers and business owners are fined. For the status quo, the pass is valid for six months.
Korea is not the only country to impose the vaccination pass. Likewise in Germany, the pass is prescribed to those who have been vaccinated, tested negative, and cured. The same rules apply in Germany as well: an individual must have this vaccination pass to use facilities such as malls, hospitals, nursing homes, movie theaters, and other entertainment facilities.
Similarly, France issues “health passes” to its citizens, while Italy endows a “green pass” on all workers who either tested negative or completed their vaccinations. For workers in Italy, they will be suspended from work and even be denied from receiving their salaries if a green pass is not presented.
As such, many countries worldwide have imposed these “passes” to ensure the safety of the citizens and prevent another wave of the virus’ invincible diffusion. While questions and criticisms rise about its vulnerability to violate one’s own set of rights, there seems to be no other option, especially for South Korea.
