The Business Club is a club that was formed last year by graduate Boon Yeow Koh and sophomore Stanley Wang under the help of Mr. Boulton as a Business & Management club to introduce the course of Business & Management, learn about how to finance and manage businesses. Several people joined the club and the business club successfully developed its BRICS cafe, a cafe where foods are sold to students every Friday. They became a stabilized club that held regular meetings every Thursday in Mr. Boulton’s room and sell for the BRICS cafe every Friday.
After the start of a new year, many new members, mostly sophomores and juniors, joined the club. Although the addition of a large number of new members may come as a confusion, the club is confident that the club will be in good shape for the rest of the year and that the new members will be of great help. Chief Financial Officer (CFO) David Li stated that, “I find the group to be in a great shape. This year we have a lot of new members and I look forward to working with them. One of our goal is to get everyone to participate in activities and help them develop their skills to the full extent.”
To further the growth of the club, the club is planning to promote several activities and add several products to the BRICS cafe to be sold. Vice-CEO Sammi Xu stated that the club is “looking to add two more activities of Business simulation and Stock Market game”, where members of the club can test their money management and entrepreneurship skills for their real life. For the BRICS cafe, the club is seeking to add products such as Korean cup noodles and candies to their menu. It is also seeking to add seasonal menus to promote is sales and maximize in profit.
As a supervisor of the club, Mr. Boulton had a positive outlook on the future of the business club. He stated that, “The executives all know what they are doing. My job to just simply facilitate the meeting and make sure certain activities are approved. The club has the potential to grow even further and I believe that they will be able to do so. One thing that bothers me is the fact that the club does not have any freshmen.”
Although the Business club is growing in size and becoming renowned, not many people seem to know what it is and what it does. Reading this article, I hope people can get a clear idea of the Business club. Freshmen who are interested in joining the business club, contact Mr. Boulton or Ruth Zou through email!
