What’s Happening in Ukraine as Russia launches a full-scale attack?

Russian military forces and Russian-backed separatists have invaded Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has dramatically changed the mood across the country, as the country woke up on Thursday (February 24) to a new horrific reality.

Russia has hit several Ukrainian cities with missiles, including Ukraine’s capital: Kyiv. Ukraine reported that large numbers of troops crossed the border into Eastern Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Luhansk regions and landed from the sea in the Southern cities of Ao Desa and Mariupol.

Cities reported casualties, but the concrete numbers have not yet been verified.

 

Putin had massed between 150,000 and 200,000 troops along the borders of Ukraine, weeks of intense diplomacy and the imposition of Western sanctions on Russia did not deter President Putin.

 

 

“I have made the decision of a military operation,” Putin said in an unexpected television announcement that triggered immediate condemnation from US President Joe Biden and other Western World leaders. The act sent global financial markets into turmoil.
