What Is the Meaning of Life?

Ever question what the purpose of living is for you? Don’t worry, you are probably not the only one with this question stuck in mind. It is extremely common for a person to think about this question throughout life and not be able to find a true definite answer. Sadly, this “correct” answer does not exist.

According to Scott B, a best selling author and popular speaker, “The answer to the question might just be there is no meaning other than living life for its simple pleasures and responsibilities.” He states how the people who question their existence are the ones not struggling and are actually at a certain point in their life where they feel accomplished enough with their successes. This is because those who are struggling in life are the ones too occupied and busy to even have the time to think about these philosophical questions.

Time plays an essential role to the exploration of this question as the time spent writing this article, reading it or doing such simple daily actions as going to the bathroom will be lost forever. Time shouldn’t be taken for granted as every second counts. Scott B. mentions how “[he] prioritizes [his] own time to define what life means.” His ideas are an extension to the famous saying, “live every day as if it is your last.”

The meaning of life differs depending on one’s identity. Different people have different mindsets and have different experiences. People interpret this cliché question differently and in different aspects. This is why there is no “right” or ultimate answer to this question. Additionally, as discussed by Scott B, we, as humans, fail to even reach to the final answer in the first place, because we are naturally distracted by “shiny objects, status symbols, fears and entertainments.”

The reason why this question is extremely frequently asked by philosophers and in philosophy classes is because there is no right answer to it. It is a very subjective question, meaning the answer will vary and depend on the each individual’s perspective, mind and behavior. What do you think about this open-ended question? What is your purpose of living?
