The elections are between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. In D.C. due to presidential elections it has been closed.

Out of fear of the possibility of violent acts due to Election Day, businesses in the DC Area are boarding up their windows. Officials have advised these businesses to sign up for crime alerts and to make sure they have proper insurance.

As the election draws nearer authorities are watching for frustration to end up on the streets.  Even the DC police have limited officers from taking leave to make sure they have a sufficient number of officers. DC spent $100,000 on less lethal weapons for the police force for riot control. Officials are watching for disturbances as the votes go in. Demonstrators posted, “After you vote, hit the streets.” Causing much tension the authorities were on their toes.

George Washington University warned their students that to prepare for Election Day they should prepare as if it was a snowstorm or hurricane, by stockpiling a weeks worth of food and supplies. Federal and local authorities in the DC area are also trying to reassure the public they will keep the Election safe. They are also warning people that destroying election signs is illegal.

D.C. has not seen this much action for any of the other elections. The elections have never had this much violence. This is a very inconvenient time due to the fact of corona virus causing small businesses to get hurt and the election is making it worse.

An AISG Student who is from D.C. said, “They’re afraid that there’s going to be another looting. It’s a very controversial election just like the BLM riots. They thought it was going to happen again and it was in DC by the White House.”
