After seven seasons, 73 episodes, and almost ten years, the beloved HBO T.V. series, Game of Thrones (GOT), will premiere its final season on April 14, 2019. The T.V. series is about nine noble families that fight to rule the mythical land of Westeros, and to eventually, sit on the Iron Throne. Last week, the cast of Game of Thrones has said goodbyes to their dedicated fans at press tour events and the premiere. Since season seven was released to the public, fan theories have dominated the internet surrounding how the final season would end — this season has already been proven to be the most highly-anticipated out of the entire series.
The main conflict people are expecting from the eighth season is between the White Walkers and the Night King. Danaerys Targaryen and Jon Snow have joined forces with their ultimate enemy in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Cersei Lannister, in order to prepare themselves to face these undead White Walkers. Some fan theories — absurd or possible, include Tyrion being a Targaryen, Jon and Dany betraying each other, Jaime killing the Night King, and many more (esquire.com).
HBO has released three trailers, “Together,” “Survival,” and “Aftermath” to hype fans up for the breathtaking finale. Part of the reason this season is so highly anticipated is the tremendous secrecy around the plot. Cast members remark that the script often “self-destructs” immediately after the last shot of each scene, saying that the directors and the team are all very discreet. According to an interview conducted by Time, they also enforced heightened security to prevent season 8 leaks (time.com).
“I think it’s been an exciting and thrilling show and I am anticipating a shocking ending,” said Mr. Tim Padden, a longtime fan of Game of Thrones and AISG’s learning support teacher.
“Game of Thrones is one of the most thrilling tv series in the 21st century,” commented Sue Y., a student at AISG.
As a fan of Game of Thrones, I highly recommend this T.V. show to anyone that may be interested. The final season will be released on April 14, 2019, so watch it on HBO.
