On Monday, October 16, Henry Evans, a scientist studying climate change and marine biology, visited our school. He spoke to our students about the solutions to prevent a large change in climate. He previously visited our school in 2014 and was back again to share his experiences. His presentation included a video of his expedition in Antartica (click here to watch it), fun facts about climate change, and a penguin costume. His goal here was to “inspire students about climate change and make science fun”. Biology was never Evans’ best subject in school, however, it was his favorite, making him work hard to get to where he is now. His advice for our students is to “find a topic you love and work at it to make a difference in the world, while also having fun.”

In 2013, Evans went out on an expedition to ski through Antartica to the USA base camp. The expedition was 14 days long where each day he would ski for 7 hours. During this expedition, he kept a diary and a blog, while also conducting an experiment on snow samples. He went on this expedition to experience something new saying that Antarctica is a “place of mystery”. Through this experience, he was able to expand his scientific knowledge and gain confidence in his ability to survive. He emphasized that everyone has a responsibility for the future of our planet and it is up to us to change it.
