Open Mic: A Melodic Starry Night

On November 11th, passionate high school student singers performed at Open Mic Night, which was held in the amphitheater. Helen Liao, President of the Student Council, designed the set to be cozy and relaxing with fairy lights and potpourri jars  placed around the area. Seniors had the luxury of watching the show on sofas and bean bags because of “Senior Privilege” while freshmen, sophomores and juniors sat at decorated tables.

The show started at 5:30pm with the MC’s being senior Nino Lee and sophomore Andy Jeong.  The first performer was Gloria Huang. Her impressive vocal range in her performance of  Come To Your Senses made the crowd go wild. Other performances followed after that and were equally impressive. Sophomore Maria Elena Little sang an original song. Yumin and Rachel sang Impossible by James Arthur. After that came the intermission, where StuCo sold cup noodles with a variety of different flavors, as well as kimbab and dumplings. They also sold drinks such as cans of soda–the options weren’t necessarily healthy, but they were definitely tasty.

After the intermission, Michael Zhou performed a romantic set with his guitar; he received wild applause. Nino Lee followed with a performance of “ITGMA” in his interesting get-up of a lab coat, a snapback, and sunglasses. He was joined by Mr. Megarity in a cowboy hat, which made the crowd go wild. It was definitely a performance that stole the show. Finally, the seniors gathered on the stage and ended the night with Let It Be by The Beatles. It was a heartwarming moment for the class of 2017 who will be going to university next year.

Overall, it was a success and thank you to StuCo for making it such a memorable and fun event!
