This Thursday the Garden Hotel will host the annual “‘The Way I See It’ Grade 10 Showcase.” It is an annual student-run event and a proud tradition at our school where a group of selected grade 10 social studies students present their speeches, usually on a wide range of topics. Students and teachers are all encouraged to attend.

First, a little background on this event. This is the third year that we’ve held it. The purpose of the “The Way I See It Grade 10 Showcase” is to celebrate the grade 10 class. According to Mr. Duncan, “So many students really gave the best speech of their lives and this is an opportunity for the greater AISG community to see the success that the grade 10 students had.” Besides featuring amazing speakers, the event will also feature two student emcees. Their job along with introducing the speakers will also be coordinating the showcase.

If you are wondering if the event is worth going to, it most certainly is. Mr. Duncan mentioned that “People should expect a really nice environment and most importantly to learn something because the students spent three months researching and one month preparing the speech. The students often know about their areas more than their teachers do since they spent so much time researching.” And since this event is opened for the entire RAMS Community, everyone is encouraged to come and watch the speeches and learn something.

The Way I See It 2017 Featured Presenters

This year, the featured sophomore speakers are Sophie Elliott, Alex Kwon, Jisu Kim, Maria Elena Little Endara, Andy Jeong, Ivy Liao and Jonty Davies. These presenters are  selected, according to Mr. Duncan, “primarily through a peer survey that occurs after each speech.”

If you think that the speeches won’t be entertaining or if you think you might get lost during the event, don’t worry because there will be two great emcees there to help. The emcees for this year’s showcase will be sophomores Ai Ni Chew and Michael Liu.

“The Way I See It Speeches” are a great and, conveniently, a free event, and all of the students and teachers are encouraged to come and watch. The school will provide transportation for the event as well. This Thursday after school, there will be a bus leaving at 4:45 that can take you to the Garden Hotel, and if you live in Ersha or Clifford, then you will have another departing bus that can take you home. The event according to Mr. Duncan will be “entertaining, interesting and something unique.”
