{Current AISG Toilet Paper}

“A basic right, not a privilege” – Professor Kwame Akyeampong (Professor of International Education and Development)

AISG is considered a prestigious international school in Guangzhou. Being in the APAC division of performing arts and sports along with a big campus, many schools look up on us thinking there are absolutely no flaws in the environment; however, AISG has a very big flaw in its school.

This flaw is none other than the terrible – if not – the worst toilet paper provided in the washrooms compared to other schools. Toilet paper received millions of complaints by both students and teachers in AISG. I’ve been to other international schools in China. Schools such as Concordia, WAB, and ISB have excellent – if not – the best toilet paper provided in their washrooms. I’ve been in the situation myself. That stuff in those schools was quite good:  smooth and rough. Compared to AISG, well, it’s as if it was paper.

Take what our Genco president Eddie said, “That toilet paper is way too think, rough, and cheap. It’s hard for me to accept that.” Now it may be true that some students actually like rougher toilet paper for apparent reasons, most students absolutely hate the fact that the toilet paper here is as thin as a leaf.

Raaghav, another AISG student said, “The toilet paper is just below quality. I mean, it can be finer quality by being thicker. We paid money for this school. Having brands such as ‘Ultra Soft’, ‘Conttenelle’, and ‘Tempo’ will be better. The current brand AISG uses is Scott, but it doesn’t seem to satisfy the people in the facility.

The fact that AISG buys “Scott” only for a 1-ply toilet paper limits the enjoyability of the users. According to the director of facilities and school services Mr. Lefebvre claims that the total cost for each month for SP campus in terms of toilet paper is 1920RMB. AISG believes it is a reasonable price, but students don’t. Students believe. that they deserve better toilet paper for paying 290,000RMB for tuition annually. The only reason why AISG will not change their toilet papers is because it will double the price of their monthly costs as it changes to a 2-ply. AISG is reluctant to spend money in this area, which is a terrible decision. It is not a question that AISG should give both students and faculty members the best brands to have at least a 2-ply for users enjoyability. Students need the comfortable toilet paper to boost their mood throughout the day.

An AISG teacher Mr. Donham complained, “It’s weird to me that the toilet paper does not come in a roll. It’s different and unusual.” Everybody will think that is undeniably despicable right? Going in a washroom and you find the toilet not wrapped in a roll? If we want to stick to the basic norms of a washroom, AISG having rolls is the best way to solve the problems.

Are solutions really that hard? The first solution is changing the paper toilet brand in our school, but there are several downsides of it. What is the cost of getting new toilet paper brands? What is the cost of getting actual rollers? Mr. Lefebvre claims “If we change to other brands it may need to change all the toilet paper holder cause the size may not fit, and both SP and ES campus will be changing together. We are hesitant to replace all of the holds to try a product that may not be good as what we have.

Another solution can be installing bidets. That actually might be the best solution. One of our admins Ms. Herrin said, “I love a good bidet. Who doesn’t? In the adult toilets there are the little water guns. My worry would be if you have a water gun in the toilet, there are certain lower secondary students who might not handle that.

Recently, there have been rumors about the school having better toilet paper inside the adult washrooms and a few inside the student washrooms. Other rumors then appeared saying Genco is funding with some comfy Vinda toilet paper in B building 4th floor washrooms.

AISG must take account for the prioritization for the investment in toilet papers. They must hear from students and faculty members. I do believe AISG will get this figured out soon. I do have hope. GO RAMS!
