APAC Theatre: Performances of a Lifetime

• Bookmarks: 361659

What is theatre? Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience. These are often on a stage. The performers may communicate the experience through the combinations of gestures, monologues, songs, amongst others.

APAC Theatre consists of fun, collaborative activities from different international schools. This APAC included the international schools CISS, HKIS, SFS, TCIS, UNIS, and AISG. Every school has different performances ranging from creative comedy shows to dramatic, symbolic, and mute performances. Each performance has its own meaning and creativity and widely represents their own school. Not like any other APAC activities, APAC Theatre is a friendly, cooperative environment where people get together and enjoy the art of theatre.

Ranging from get-togethers to creating a performance from scratch, the APAC Theatre people are hardworking individuals who are passionate about what they are doing. Each individual school has to create a performance to showcase for an audience of people, usually the students where the APAC Event is being held at. Luckily, this year APAC Theatre was hosted at our own school, AISG. Each performance has their own creativity and message embedded in their performance. AISG’s performance was counted to be strange yet symbolic about society and roles for each person/group.

“This year was a complete character of its own. In the previous years that I’ve been in APAC Theatre, we always went for a concept with a deep meaning that wasn’t too complicated to understand. We decided to make things bigger by making our play more symbolic and unique”, said Santiago V., a senior who participated in this year’s APAC Theatre.

As said by senior Sara Q., “APAC Theatre doesn’t get enough credit for what it is. I was surprised by the different schools’ performances. They were quite amazing and showed the hard work of each school. APAC is a term that is generally coined to sports and not usually to theatre, which sucks as they deserve much more credit than the one they actually get.” As said by Sara, APAC Theatre is definitely one of the most undervalued APAC activities at our school. People’s first thought when they hear the word “APAC” is stuff to do with sports. The actors and actresses in APAC Theatre should get more credit on what they are doing, especially when creating plays from scratch and performing for a wide variety of audiences. Although APAC Theatre does not have any sort of competition on which performance is better than the others, APAC Theatre should still be treated like any other APAC event rather than a disliked subject.
