Belinda Tang ended her senior year back in 2020, with half of her class receiving their high school diplomas on the other side of the globe.

Recently, Tang finally settled into her on-campus life as a sophomore at the University of San Francisco, after attending online classes for the entirety of her freshman year. Let’s take a look at how she is adjusting to the huge change and her own thoughts about it.

  1. How is the United States treating you? Is there anything you miss back home?

The United States is honestly way different than I’d imagined. You see all these stereotypes in movies and expect them to be the same here, but it’s totally and completely different! Honestly, it didn’t really “hit” me that I was in an utterly new place until a few weeks in, but even now it seems surreal to me! And about missing things back home- I can’t even think about where to begin. But first and foremost, I miss my family. All my relatives are either in Germany, China, or Australia, so to think that I’m completely alone in this country puts a dark cloud over me. But I know I’ll get to see my family again one day, so I’m staying positive!

  1. Can you tell us a memory of you in your high school life that you probably will never forget?

The best memories in high school were the ones I made with friends. To be honest, one moment I will never forget would be the last time we were all in the same place at the same time, unknowingly for the last time, before covid hit and everything went to shambles.

  1. How would you describe your high school experience?

My experience at AISG is best described as a “mish-mash” of a rollercoaster journey. AISG isn’t any ordinary high school- the students, staff, and parents present are special in the sense that they made being there (at the school) feel like being a part of a melting pot of cultures and a hub of knowledge.

  1. What plans do you have for after you graduate?

I’m just going to be blunt about it, but my plans are to not screw up at adulting and enjoy life.
