Faculty Take Flight: Mr. Duncan & Ms. Kalu

While the school year at AISG is coming to an end, there are several AISG faculty members whose tenures at AISG will be ending. Two of these teachers include Mr. Duncan, and Ms. Kalu. They were kind enough to respond to some interview questions to tell us where they are headed, and also to reflect on their time teaching at AISG.

Mr. Duncan:
Mr. Duncan is a high school theory of knowledge, IB economics, and grade 10 social studies teacher. He’s been an outstanding teacher and part of the AISG community for four years now. When asked what he will miss most about AISG, Mr. Duncan said, “So many to choose from, but I will start with saying the ability to teach students not to use the word ‘thing’ in formal writing. For real though, the students here have been a pleasure to interact with day in and day out.” For those students who had or have Mr. Duncan as a teacher, they know exactly what he means. The best memory he has at AISG is “Seeing so many students overcome their fears and deliver truly the best speech of their lives. It reminded me of why teaching can be such a special profession.” Mr. Duncan will be heading to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and says that he will miss teaching TOK at his new school as well as the SP Mountain, where he took many runs both for pleasure and with the cross country team. Mr. Duncan will surely be missed here at AISG, as he has had such a positive effect on our community. Good luck to him in his next step.

Kalu (Ms. Cline):
Kalu is a Mandarin Chinese teacher here at AISG for both high school and middle school students. She will be departing AISG this year after two years of teaching here. When asked about her time at AISG, she remarked, “My favorite thing … is the really cool students. I am constantly learning from all our diverse backgrounds and excited to see my students every single day!” For those students fortunate enough to have Kalu as their teacher they know that this is true, because she teaches with so much enthusiasm. She’ll be moving on to the International School of Yangon in Myanmar. From her time here at AISG she mentioned that her favorite memory was on her opening day introduction when she spoke in Chinese and everyone was so surprised and applauded her—”What a wonderful welcome!” she said. AISG would like to wish Kalu success in her new journey.

Mr. Duncan and Ms. Kalu, on behalf of AISG, the Beacon would like to thank you for your amazing impact and influence on the AISG community.
