• Bookmarks: 502480

High School Union is a new club created to motivate students to create new relationships with students from other international schools in Guangzhou. The teacher adviser for the group is Mrs. Navis, the SP Campus librarian, and the coordinator of the group is Grade 11 student, Iris Xu. The first meeting of the group was on the first Monday of the second semester and around 15 students joined.

At the start I didn’t think about creating a group”, coordinator Iris Xu explains, “I was just thinking that we should have a show with schools in Guangzhou altogether cause it would be cool. I talked to Ms Navis about this and we just kept developing our ideas and in the end thats how this group came to be.”

Although the group has just recently been created, they have already many plans for the near future and the group is extremely excited for this. Some of the activities that they will be doing include the Guangzhou MUN Exchange, class exchanges and a big variety show at the end of the school year. “For the class exchange we will go to their school for half a day or so to experience what their education is like and then we will invite them to come to our school and observe our education.”, states Iris.

Their main goal for the year is to connect with at least 10 schools in Guangzhou. Some of these schools include Clifford International School and Huafu International. “I got in contact with Clifford easily because I used to go there and because most of my friends left the school, I managed to get in contact with the local international schools they currently go to”, Iris describes.

During the meetings, their goals will be to brainstorm ideas for activities and to find contacts with the international department of local schools. They already have many activities coming up so for now, their main objectives will be to begin communicating with other schools and being their process of building new bonds.
