The third season of athletics started at the beginning of this semester, and the varsity soccer (or football) players, both girls and boys, have been practicing rain or shine for four weeks.
When I interviewed Ibrahim Bah, a current eleventh grader, he excitedly explained how he is eager for everything to come with this soccer season whether it be Tri-Cities, local games, APAC, hanging out with the team, or just playing soccer and practicing.
Devika Nambiar, a senior who has played soccer since her freshman year, says she is most excited about “Traveling with the team, the games, team dinners! I love soccer season because it’s the one sport all my friends join. Throughout the school year, we are all involved in different sports, but during this season we all get to hang out and play a game we love, all the time. It’s going to be amazing.”
Nambiar also mentioned that she is very excited for Tri-Cities: “I love traveling with the team and playing with other schools gives us an opportunity to get an idea of the competition for APAC and the chance to improve by then.”
Our Lady Rams had three matches against the Hong Kong International School (HKIS) Dragons over this past weekend (Feb 27, 28). They struggled in the first half of their game on Friday; however, they made a comeback in the second half and were able to score some goals. Since the season has only begun and the team lost some seniors last year and have some new players on the team, this weekend was a good opportunity for them to see each others’ strengths and weaknesses. The team played well and showed good sportsmanship towards all players.
