Prince Andrew Loses Titles Due to Ongoing Court Case Against Virginia Guiffre

On Jan 13, 2022, a notice was released from Buckingham palace stating that, Prince Andrew had been stripped of all titles and accomplishments.

In 2019, sex trafficking victim, Virginia Giuffre, came forward with allegations against Prince Andrew. This ties into Prince Andrew’s former relationships with Jeffery Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

“I think the ties between Prince Andrew and Epstein are something that should not be taken lightly. Even though the prince has now stepped back from his public duties, it presents the royal family in, once again, a bad light. With many victims coming out and saying Prince Andrew is well aware of what he has done, his excuses and recent actions do not reflect well on his character.” said Sophia P., a junior at AISG.

In 2019, Virginia Giuffre took Prince Andrew to court in the state of New York for charges of sexual assault and battery. Her legal team’s leading evidence is a picture that shows Virginia at 17 years old in Prince Andrew’s home.

Prince Andrew has continued to deny all claims against him as the trial goes on. Prince Andrew has said on record that it “didn’t happen” and has “no recollection” about ever meeting with her.

During the Prince’s time in the military, he earned titles, but as of January 13, all of those titles have been removed and distributed to other members of the family, leaving him with no titles if he were to come back. The Royal Family has been putting distance between themselves and Andrew due to this case.

“That’s very fair. Like that makes sense why they did that, cause if it’s true then it would be damaging to anyone close to him.” said Nathan K., a junior at AISG.

Andrew was supposed to be promoted to admiral on his 60th birthday, but due to the court case, it was decided to not go through with the promotion.

Ms. Giuffre filed the case under the New York state’s Child Victims Act, which allows surviving child victims to claim justice when they are adults. Giuffre’s lawyers are currently looking for Andrew’s former assistant and a witness that could put the Duke at a nightclub which Andrew claims he never met Ms. Giuffre at while she was underage.

Andrew’s legal team has stated in court that Ms. Giuffre might be suffering from false memories and that she should be questioned accordingly.

Even with this court case costing him his titles and accomplishments, Prince Andrew still holds many memberships to clubs and still frequents. Andrew is now having to finish the court case as a private citizen and under the justice system of the United States.
