Root for, Don’t Shoot at: Roots & Shoots Animals

• Bookmarks: 441785

This year, Roots and Shoots Animals has decided to support the tree-kangaroos.

Roots and Shoots Animals is a community service group that aims to support animals, especially endangered species, via methods such as donation through fund raising. Last year, they supported dolphins and Asian tigers by installing Korean food booths during Family Fun Day and the Holiday Bazaar.

At the beginning of the year, members of Roots and Shoots Animals had a fair vote, and the tree-kangaroo was the undisputed winner, beating its four competitors which included the South African elephant. Endangered due to habitat destruction and hunting, tree-kangaroos are the only arboreal macropods endemic to rainforests in New Guinea.

Roots and Shoots Animals is a very hospitable, energetic community service group which welcomes everyone who cares about animals. Junior Nino Lee, who was interested in animals but did not know much about them, joined Roots and Shoots Animals to learn more.

This year they are taking charge of Veggie is Edgy, trying to encourage people to eat more vegetarian meals. Eating more vegetables means more vegetation efficiency, which could save more animals and people.

Anyone who is interested in supporting the survival of tree-kangaroos or other animals should contact Ms. Erica or the coordinators Alice Huang and Christina Qiu for information.
