Think back to the last time you tried to get in shape— it’s not an easy task to get up from your comfortable bed, pause that episode of Game of Thrones, and do something healthy or active. However, starting a fitness regime is one of the most beneficial things an individual can do for him- or herself. A bit of physical activity every day can reduce the risk of diseases, improve one’s sleep habits and personality, and create an overall balance in one’s life. Of course, one will certainly need to keep moving and stay committed to the process in order to cash in on the the benefits.
Getting healthy requires a lot of commitment and this does not necessarily mean following a strict diet, doing the Insanity Workout for hours, or going on a long hike every day. The most significant thing is to choose activities you enjoy and are passionate about. This will increase the chances of making this a habit as compared to practicing a rigid, pre-made fitness regime. The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity every day, which can range from running to doing household chores. Getting a bit of a work out every day is the best way to remain balanced and relaxed for the long run.
Workouts boost the production of brain chemicals that ease stress and anxiety and make you feel happier and more relaxed. They improve your memory, creativity, and most importantly, prevent diseases. An easy way, especially if you are not a current IB diploma student, is to use your time and skills by participating in our school sports. Cross Country at AISG has a great advantage because one can participate in cross country, run with the team and attend all practices, while not committing to it competitively.
Starting off with a fitness regime no matter how intense or simple is the best decision you will make, and turning that into a habit will result in a happier and healthier self.
