The Addams Family: Creeping their Way to a Fabulous Show

On the evening of December 2nd and 3rd, members of the AISG musical performed The Addams Family at the Xinghai Concert Hall on ErSha Island. For those of you who are not familiar with The Addams Family, they are a fictional eccentric, wealthy, and aristocratic American family created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. Characters within the family include Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley and Thing.

The Addams Family was originally published as 150 single-panel cartoons in The New Yorker between their debut in 1938 and Addams’ death in 1988. Since then, they have been adapted to other media, including a television series, films, video games, and of course, a musical.

On both nights, the concert hall was packed with students and teachers from AISG and other international schools in Guangzhou. Proud parents holding bouquets of flowers were also present along with excited family members. It was apparent that both the production members and actors put a lot of energy and effort into making their performance as perfect as possible: the lights came on cue, the music came on cue, there were no mistakes made in their choreography, everyone’s makeup and outfits were impeccable.

Karan Vasdev, a junior, said, “Mango was really good and she played the character Wednesday extremely well. Their costumes were very well constructed and portrayed their personalities well. I think Santiago was very engaged with his character and I’m so proud of them!”

Harsh Hemlani commented, “I liked the songs a lot, and the dancing. I loved Ayman’s dance and it was very entertaining.”

Overall, the musical was a success: the audience was entertained by the dark humor and blown away by their melodious voices. We can not wait to see what they have in store for us next year!
